Beaches, history, heritage, nature, gastronomy, …

is a population center belonging to the municipality of Alcalá de Xivert, in the province of Castellón. It consists of two traditional nuclei, Alcossebre and Capicorp; and various urbanizations, among which stand out Las Fuentes and El Pinar.

With 10 kilometers of coastline spread over five beaches and various virgin coves, it is one of the few towns that is not fully urbanized, like most coastal towns..

It is located on the Costa del Azahar, bordering the municipalities of Peñíscola (to the north) and Torreblanca (to the south). In addition to having the coastal area, it is characterized by having various viewpoints offered by the mountains belonging to the Sierra de Irta natural area..

Along its ten kilometers of coastline there are five large sandy beaches: El Cargador (Carregador), La Romana, El Moro, Manyetes or Tropicana and Las Fuentes, which have the blue flag as a distinctive quality. This last beach has fresh water springs, which arise from it and are of great ecological value.

You can also find several coves: Tres Playas, which is a set of three coves separated by rock formations whose bed is rock; Cala del Moro, which is separated from the beach of the same name by a small dune; Cala Mundina and Cala Blanca, located in the Ribamar area, near the Irta lighthouse.

Las Fuentes also has a marina, and to the north lies the Sierra de Irta Natural Park. Near the town, on a peak that dominates the southern end of the Sierra de Irta is the Hermitage of Santa Lucía and San Benito.

The Columbretes Islands, of volcanic origin, are located off the coast and can be seen in the distance when the weather is good.

Alcossebre is an ideal destination for those looking for a quiet holiday in a privileged natural environment and with numerous leisure and entertainment options.

History

In the surroundings there are numerous archaeological sites such as El Tossalet. In 1260, after the Christian conquest, the Templars granted the Puebla Charter to the nucleus to favor its settlement. The measure was unsuccessful, so they granted a second Puebla Charter in 1320, by which the population was linked to the jurisdiction of the Castle of Xivert. The incorporation to the municipality of Alcalá de Xivert took place in 1583. The proximity of the sea facilitated the attacks of Barbary pirates during the 16th and 17th centuries. To avoid them, some watchtowers were built, such as the Torre de Ebrí (today very deteriorated) and the Torre de Cap i Corb (in very good condition).

Access

Alcossebre is accessible through exit 44 of the Autopista del Mediterráneo (AP-7). The N-340 also passes through the vicinity. The Alcalá de Xivert Station is located 7 kilometers from the center of Peñíscola.
